What's the old saying about the definition of insanity, doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result?  NASCAR has now tried something different.  We'll find out later if it will bring a different result.

I'm not going to say NASCAR is at a crossroads, but the sports world in general has found itself in a place where they're heavily reliant on TV money and facing a target generation that is watching less of it.

The challenge NASCAR faces is giving folks reasons to watch the races from start to finish.  Ensuring there will be their catchphrase "moments" guaranteed in the first half of the event.

Has it made things more complicated for those counting points?  Yes.  But, that's the trade off.

I'm happy settling for more complicated points in return for an even greater emphasis on winning; especially for those who already have wins in the bank.

Only time will tell if the changes work.  But, it's good to see almost every stakeholder in the sport understanding something needed to be done.
