There’s the old joke that goes: if April showers bring May flowers, what do May flowers bring?  The answer is: Pilgrims.

The NASCAR spin on it is: they bring May showers and May showers bring race fans.

This year the month of May, in the NASCAR world, was book-ended by a pair of Monday race days.  First at Dover, then at Charlotte.

And, as inconvenient as rain outs are, I have to give kudos to you race fans.  At both Dover and Charlotte this May, you showed incredible resiliency and dedication.  At Dover, Monday wasn’t a holiday, and yet, an impressive number of fans came back out to watch the Cup race.

At Charlotte, I’d guess that, maybe, 60% of the folks who planned on being there Sunday for the Coke 600 came back on Monday to watch 900-mles of racing.  And, there were still a decent number of folks still there when the checkered flag flew on the Xfinity race nearly 13 hours after it started.

So, give yourselves a high-five.  And, let’s hope these Mondays were a May anomaly.
