CONCORD, N.C. - Hendrick Motorsports announced Friday that sponsor Axalta has signed an extension to remain with the organization through 2022.

Beginning in 2018, Axalta will be the primary sponsor in 25 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series events with drivers Alex Bowman and William Byron. According to a press release from Hendrick Motorsports, Bowman will carry sponsorship from Axalta in 15 races this season and 12 in 2019, while Byron's No. 24 will have Axalta on board for 10 and 13 races in 2018 and 2019, respectively.

"Motorsports is in Axalta's DNA," said Charlie Shaver, chairman and CEO of Axalta. "For more than 25 years, our partnership with Hendrick Motorsports has enabled us to showcase our industry leading performance coatings that have helped make cars lighter, more efficient, and look terrific. We're excited to continue our successful partnership with Hendrick Motorsports through 2022."

Axalta first teamed up with Hendrick in November 1992 with then-rookie driver Jeff Gordon. Gordon went on to win 93 races in NASCAR's top level and four championships. He is a nominee for the NASCAR Hall of Fame's 2019 class.

After Gordon's retirement, Axalta partnered with two-time Daytona 500 champion Dale Earnhardt Jr. for two seasons. They also opened a 36,000-square foot customer experience center on the campus of Hendrick Motorsports in Concord, North Carolina.

"We are so proud of our partnership with Axalta," said Hendrick Motorsports owner Rick Hendrick. "Their long-term commitment to our organization and our sport as a whole has been unbelievable. They are constantly innovating and investing to keep the program fresh, enhance the experience for their customers and ultimately drive value for their business."
